Obituary of Elaine Denys Lenore; nee Maukonen) Salo

Salo, Elaine (Denys Lenore; nee Maukonen) passed peacefully from this life on November 12, 2018 to be present with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Predeceased by her parents (Henry and Olga) and husband, Jorma, Elaine will be deeply missed by brothers Ted (Linda) and Bret (Lynne); niece Kimberley (Brent Gilpin; children, Liam, Nathaniel and Rylin) and nephew Marcus, (children Abigail and Caleb). Elaine attended Parkdale Collegiate, participating in student council and synchronized swimming. She was a proud graduate and enjoyed a lifelong friendship with her schoolmates of the “The Parkdale crowd.” She graduated from Lakeshore Teachers College in 1960 and devoted herself to students in the classroom, in Special Education and Remedial Reading. She was employed by the Toronto Board of Education (1960-77) and then by the London Parental School (1980-89). She earned a BA (York) studying part-time while active as a teacher. Elaine was proud of her Finnish heritage and spent many summers in Finland with the Edströms as her second family. From her youth, Elaine was a member of Dovercourt Road Baptist Church until she was married and relocated to London. She also served on the Board of New Horizons Tower adjacent to the church. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018, at Dovercourt Baptist Church, 1140 Bloor St. W., Toronto, beginning at 4:00 p.m. SOUTH COAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION ALTERNATIVES, 71 Norfolk St. N., Simcoe in care of arrangements. Elaine faithfully supported a number of ministries.
