Obituary of Sheila Vernie Guiler
GUILER-- Sheila Vernie: of Simcoe, Ontario, passed away on March 12, 2019 at Hardy Terrace LTC home in Mount Pleasant in her 84th year. Sheila was born in Guelph on February 24, 1936 but lived in Simcoe most of her life. She graduated from Simcoe Composite School in 1954 with a Commercial General Business Certificate. Sheila was the bookkeeper and payroll clerk for the family business, Chief Alignment Service, for many years, and finally at Canada Post for 22 years. She was especially proud of her role in answering letters to Santa Claus when working at the Post Office. Sheila kept busy with many hobbies such as home canning and pickling, refinishing furniture, playing cards, and various needlework projects which she discovered as a member of Norfolk’s Own Needle Arts Guild. Sheila enjoyed making costumes for many years for the Simcoe Little Theater as a volunteer. She also volunteered for the Norfolk County Fair. Sheila earned a life-time membership to the Simcoe Seniors’ Centre in honour of her many years of service on various committees. She also enjoyed her social lunches as a member of the Sapphire Sisters. Sheila’s nickname was “the Roadrunner” because of her busy schedule and her interest in traveling to destinations around the world, in her spare time.
Sheila is survived by her daughters Susan Guiler and Wendy Schmous (David), her grandchildren Shannon Weaver (Kylie), Brandy Weaver (Al), Tyler Schmous, and Jacqueline Kudla (Daniel). She will also be missed by Hudson, her great grandson, and many nieces and nephews. Sheila is predeceased by her husband, Harold Douglas, her parents, Edward and Vernie Hampson and her brothers, Edward Jr. and Robert Hampson. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 79, 200 West Street Simcoe on Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm.
