Obituary of Elizabeth Dorothy Corewin

Elizabeth Dorothy Inder Cooper Corewin March 27, 1946 – December 29, 2019 Passed away in her 74th year as a result of complications from leukaemia in Simcoe. Elizabeth graduated from the University of Western Ontario and spent her entire teaching career working for the various iterations of the Grand Erie District School Board. During her teaching years, she was a busy member of Simcoe Little Theater – on the executive, as an actor and as a director. Later, she and her sister Barbara Robertson wrote a play, Quilting Pieces which played to sold-out houses around Ontario. In her retirement years, she became known in the Norfolk County Region as an olde tyme fiddler, a quilter, and a teacher of both. The band Diversity was started in her dining room and enjoyed six years of travelling around southern Ontario playing for any occasion which required happy music. She was also delighted to pass on some olde tyme Canadian tunes to her friends in Pennsylvania both at Cambridge Springs Inn and at the Heart of the Arts Festival in Titusville. As evidenced by the many who attended her benefit afternoon, she had a wonderful and varied circle of friends who supported her music. Thanks for coming to her music sessions and inviting her to yours! Family: Thanks to her sister Barbara Robertson (Peter, Owen, Graham, David and Erin) of Ottawa for always lifting her up and for buying her first little black dress all those years ago, and to her brother John Inder (Helene, Yannick, Shawn) of Montreal who could always make her laugh with his bent sense of humour. Rick – “my husband, always there with inventions and support, both moral and physical. He is my anchor, my incredibly strong partner.” Two amazingly wonderful girls and two boys, Andrea, Cameron, Eric and Martha complete the family. They are full of life, kindness, smartness and humour, so dear to her. Their spouses – Mark, Dianne, Margaret, and Sam are their equals in every way. And their children! Carson, Sydney, Fenton, Caelan, Sarina, Grant, Ruby and Cecil - all are developing into interesting and aware inhabitants of our wonderful world. Elizabeth loved her family with all her heart. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one of our family’s favourite places — Algoma Trad Centre - a place for all ages to learn, to share, and to celebrate traditional music, dance, art, and heritage craft in a caring community. Elizabeth would be honoured to know she continues to be part of this lasting legacy.
